A successful embolization of a vertebral arteriovenous fistula.

چکیده
As both congenital (AVM) and acquired arteriovenous malformations (fistulas) may cause congestive heart failure and aneurysm formation, they should be repaired. The surgicai management of a traumatic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the surgical division of the fistula and primary repair of the involved artery and vem’ or the ligation of the main feeding and draining vessels.2 The anatomic location of an AVF and its extent, may make surgical repair hazardous and difficuit. In such cases, nonsurgical arreriographic embolization techniques may be used to clog such AVF.’ Various materiais have been used for rherapeutic embolization such as Gelatin (Gel foam), polyvinyl aicohol (Ivalon), autogenous cloths, muscle, detachable balloons, silastic beads, steel tubing to which are attached cotton or wool threads,4 nylon brushes with a stainless steel5 and stainless-steel pellets or coils.6

Marginal sinus fistula supplied exclusively by vertebral artery feeders.
A 54-year-old woman is reported with severe pulsatile tinnitus. Digital subtraction angiography demonstrated dural arteriovenous fistula of the marginal sinus with feeders arising exclusively from bilateral vertebral arteries. Patient underwent successful transarterial Onyx embolization with complete angiographic and clinical cure.

Traumatic vertebral arteriovenous fistulae (AVFs) are relatively uncommon lesions that often follow penetrating wounds of the neck or iatrogenic arterial trauma [1-7]. Such posttraumatic single-hole fistulae differ from congenital arteriovenous malformations, which are composed of multiple communications between the cervical arteries and an abnormal vascular nidus [8] . True single-hole vertebr...

Twenty patients with vertebral arteriovenous fistulas (eight spontaneous, six traumatic without vertebral artery transection, and six traumatic with vertebral artery transection) were treated by transvascular embolization techniques, resulting in complete fistula closure in all patients. The fistulas were located at C1-C2 in 45%, C2-C3 in 25%, C4-C5 in 15%, C5-C6 in 10%, and C6-C7 in 5%. Trauma...
متن کاملSpinal intraosseous arteriovenous fistula in the fractured vertebral body.
A 68-year-old woman presenting with progressive paraparesis was diagnosed with an AVF involving a previously fractured L1 vertebral body on which feeders from multiple segmental arteries converged. The most distinctive feature in our patient was that the fistula was located in the vertebral body. Transarterial embolization of the segmental arteries with coils and glue resulted in total oblitera...

common autosomal-dominant genetic disorders with an incidence of approximately 1:3,500. Vascular abnormalities associated with NF-1 include stenotic or occlusive diseases, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and, rarely, arteriovenous fistula (AVF). Association of arteriovenous fistula with NF-1 is rare with a few cases of vertebral AVF having been reported (1-3). Endovascular occlusion of t...
